A custom balcony’s weight capacity depends on the structural material, span, anchoring method and engineering specifications. Standard residential balconies are designed for 40 to 60 pounds per square foot of live load. For the Santa Barbara Estate, the owner wanted to host 15 to 20 people on the balcony at once with no flex or movement. Kingdom & Co. engineered the self-supporting wrought iron structure to exceed standard load requirements, using solid wrought iron pickets and heavy-gauge framing that took months of fabrication and structural studies.
