Yes, but outdoor balcony tile requires careful planning. The substrate must be designed to handle thinset adhesion, thermal expansion and water drainage. In the Santa Barbara Estate, the balcony has tile on the top surface and a different tile pattern on the underside that is visible from below. Kingdom & Co. designed a custom bed underneath the balcony that could accept thinset on both sides, along with an integrated drain so water runs off rather than back into the house. This dual-tile approach is uncommon and required close coordination between the structural engineer and tile installer.
