Design With Purpose
Tailoring remodels to fit your lifestyle.
I think it’s so important to know, to really have a clear vision of what you want your life to look like, number one.
What’s important to you.
Stop spending so much time designing around a guest room when you have a guest once a year.
If health and fitness is important to you, plan and design around a room that you’re gonna utilize.
Don’t waste so much time thinking about something that maybe you think is important, but ask yourself the question, when am I actually gonna use that?
How am I actually gonna use this space?
What is it that I like to do on my weekends?
Do I like having a yard that’s a ton of upkeep?
Maybe you do, maybe you like that and that’s exciting and that’s a way of, that’s therapeutic for you.
Maybe you want something that’s really low maintenance.
When it comes to things like marble, when you’re having dinner or spending time with friends or entertaining somebody, are you gonna be worried about somebody spilling on that and staining your marble?
Don’t do marble then.
Don’t do marble.
To me it comes down to your story, right?
What is your story?
Once our design team meets with the clients and we know, we get to learn about them.
We learn their story, what they are, who they are, but then also a lot of times it comes down to what they want to be, right?
You know, I want a nice gym in my house that I can actually use because I’m not working out as much as I want to.
Well, what do you like to do?
Well, I like to do CrossFit or my wife likes to do Pilates.
So then our design team will take your story and they’ll develop into a way of, a creative design of how can we make this gym turn into a hybrid of a CrossFit gym and a Pilates gym, whatever it may be like.
And then you also wanna make sure you invest your money into the right spots in the house.
We don’t wanna put a lot of money into the guest bedroom because your mom is pressuring you because that’s what they did in their day.
You really wanna focus on what is gonna bring value to yourself, value to your home, and value to your story.
So to me, it all comes down to who you are and what is your story.
And speaking of mother-in-laws, mother’s-in-law, that is important for a lot of people because the older generation’s retiring, they’re wanting to downsize.
Hey, let’s do a casita for mom and dad.
They’re gonna sell their house, contribute to building equity in your house.
That happens a lot.
It’s happening a lot right now.
And so, interesting story.
I mean, we went to a house the other day.
A lot of people loved the home, it was incredible.
And these are the little details that matter.
This is why I love our team and what we do is these people built a casita too far back into their back of the yard.
So a lot of people liked this home and they were selling it.
And I’m like, why is this house not selling?
You know what’s going on?
They’re like, the casita’s too far away.
So they brought in, there was two families that went in there with older couples that were gonna live with their parents.
And the parents were like, it’s too far of a walk to go all the way back.
This is happening a lot, you know.
Because the casita was in the very deep corner, those two families were really motivated to buy this house.
After looking at how far the casita was gone, that they were like, yeah, it’s too far for my mom to walk.
And I’m like, in my mind going, those details matter.
Those little things matter.
And so, you know, making sure when you’re meeting with the design team, you know, explaining what you want and that’s guiding you along those paths.
And there’s probably other families that are like, well, that house ain’t damn far enough away.
And that’s the case, most of them don’t even want to live there.
That’s a good point, yeah.
But yeah, so just again, coming down to the story, you know, designing with purpose.
And I think it’s really important for us, at least because you and I, our DNA is we don’t wanna, we wanna make sure we add value to homes.
I hate when our clients wanna spend a lot of money on things that don’t bring value to the home.
I never wanna put somebody in a worse position economically than before they came to me.
Exactly.
Like, you never wanna do that.
We were just meeting with a client the other day and their really concern is it’s gonna be a $400,000 remodel.
We bought the house for $600,000 and $400,000 is good.
We rest a million dollars on that house.
I’m like, okay, well, let me talk to a realtor.
So look at the comps, come to find out their home would be worth between 1.1 and 1.2 after that $400,000 remodel.
It’s a no brainer at that point.
Like, put the money into it, enjoy your home for years to come, and then establish this value.
Because it’s a timeless design.
So designing with purpose would also, I’d connect that with value.
And I’d connect that with your story, making sure that it connects to your story and brings value.
And if you can do those things, like we pride ourselves on,
