Choosing the Right Flooring
So flooring, when you’re deciding to choose floors, it’s very important to understand the basics, but just to really quickly explain it is- I have an easy way.
Yeah.
Do you have kids or not?
Or dogs.
Or dogs, yeah.
That’s kind of like one of the good starting points.
Would you agree?
Yeah, there’s really three options, in my opinion.
LVP.
Or the SPC stuff, the stone stuff.
Yes, exactly.
But it feels and looks like LVP.
Yeah, in the same category, LVP, SPC.
And then you have, so LVP, you have engineered hardwood flooring, and you have tile.
Those are the three main ones that I would- You can do concrete, but I would not recommend.
Carpet is less and less use.
I think of what we see a lot of is, if you want that soft surface, you’re putting down a custom rug over something hard.
Yeah.
Over a hard surface.
But some carpets, some areas you’re gonna want a carpet, but when it comes to the flooring, like you said, it’s those three.
So you have LVP, the amazing thing about LVP, and it’s funny, because my wife is so mad that we don’t have it in our house, because we have currently engineered hardwood flooring.
We have kids, and dogs, and a pool.
So just imagine what real wood flooring looks like.
Yeah, they take a beating.
They take a beating.
But you know what’s funny?
I still like it, because it has a good vibe.
It has this natural tendency, it has a good vibe.
I love my engineered hardwood flooring.
I wish I had it after my kids were gone.
So LVP would be my recommendation for anybody who has dogs, kids, wet areas that are, you know.
What’s amazing about it is the LVP is, if you look at our wall right now, I feel that you couldn’t tell the difference between engineered hardwood and LVP.
It’s certainly gotten better.
It doesn’t feel like the old pergo hollow stuff.
Yes, it’s amazing stuff.
And what’s really cool about it is it’s durable, it’s beautiful, it’s very hard to tell if it’s not real hardwood.
So that’s usually our recommendation for a lot of our clients going that direction, is having that warm feeling.
And it feels more solid than the old stuff, but still yet not as solid as a good hardwood.
Yeah, like if you do a glue-down hardwood, again, especially the stuff that we get from Europe, it’s just gorgeous, it’s beautiful, it’s timeless.
And you know what, you can always sand it down and restain it if you had to years down the road.
That’s what I’m gonna have to end up doing.
So there is some upside with engineered hardwood.
It’s softer, it’s beautiful.
I don’t know how to explain it.
It’s just a superior product.
In the tile category, I think in large areas, we’re seeing a lot more large format tile.
You know, these 48 by 24s or 48 by 48s.
And they’re beautiful.
Really beautiful.
And that cost has come down dramatically than what it used to be.
What’s still high on that is labor.
If you think about it, you know, those guys are having to almost position slabs to get that done.
But yeah, with that larger format, a lot less grout lines and yeah, some really beautiful product.
And making sure you have the right installer.
So what’s really neat about what we’re going to do is my experience, I think you’re the same experience, Zion.
You go to these flooring stores and there’s just too many options.
Yeah.
There’s so many decisions to be made and they’re wholesalers.
What we wanted to do is we wanted to be able to empower our clientele with simplicity.
Here are the top 10 to 15 LVP flooring that looks beautiful, that looks like engineered hardwood, that’s timeless, that’s gorgeous.
And then here is the best engineered hardwood flooring.
We are actually now starting our own flooring line where we are able to empower our clients with these two options, with the beauty.
So you can come in here and you can see literally 10 to 15 options and it’s just, it’s gorgeous.
Yeah.
And when you get into like certain bathroom areas, a lot of times people are doing tile, although you can run the LVP products into the wet areas.
Like that kind of stuff, you could get a little more creative, right?
But your go-to core products, yeah, we’re going to limit that down.
And so there’s not all of this analysis paralysis on all these too many options, right?
Yeah.
And then we’re able to get rid of the middleman and bring the prices down for our clients.
And so now we have a beautiful product.
So beautiful LVP, beautiful engineered hardwood, and cutting out the middleman is a combination of success for our clients.
Yeah.
And ultimately that’s going to be the core expense because those are the larger areas.
Exactly right.
So I mean, flooring can get really expensive.
Flooring, cabinetry and glass are the three probably most expensive.
Concrete’s a bad one.
And concrete.
Yeah, well concrete, that’s for new builds.
Yeah, for sure.
People should understand within the LVP category is the SPC product.
It’s more rigid than the traditional LVP.
SPC I think is like stone, plastic core.
There’s some type of ground stone powder within it, but it’s more resistant to, it’s just a more durable product and more rigid product and has a better feel also.
And most people don’t even know about this.
Yeah, but looking at it next to each other, it would probably look quite the same, but it’s going to have a better feel.
It’s going to have a more solid feel.
And it’s stronger.
And more durable.
Because it’s mixed with stone rather than plastic.
So we have the LVP, we have the SPC, we have the engineered hardwood, and we have the most beautiful stuff.
That’s why we are doing it.
It’s actually gorgeous stuff.
So we’re excited.
