Plant survival is the primary challenge. Many species from temperate climates will not survive a Las Vegas summer, and even desert plants like agaves require maintenance because they attract worms. Water restrictions add another layer — pools are now limited to 600 square feet, which can look undersized on a large lot. Designers work around this by creating hardscape sitting areas, fire features, and destination zones throughout the backyard so the outdoor space feels proportional rather than dominated by one small pool.
