Design continuity between indoor and outdoor spaces starts in the design phase by identifying materials, motifs and finishes that can carry across both environments. Repeating a signature element (a tile pattern, lighting style or column detail) in the exterior spaces makes the outdoor areas feel like a natural extension of the home rather than an afterthought. In the Santa Barbara Estate, Kingdom & Co. carried the interior backsplash cross motif into the pool house tile work, used the same Steven Handelman custom lighting inside and out and replicated the chamfered column style from the home’s interior archways in the outdoor trellis.
